Field School Scholarships

As part of our larger commitment to providing opportunities for students to experience hands-on educational and research opportunities, Field School works with our non-profit partners to offer field expeditions for low-income students at cost.  Our fundraising efforts through Blue Backyard help us further cut costs for these students by offering scholarships to completely cover the expenses associated with coming out into the field with us.

Disserteachin'

In addition to taking students out into the field to participate in science, Blue Backyard works to bring unique educational talks on scientific research into the classroom.  As part of the Disserteachin' Project, Blue Backyard works with current graduate students to develop an educational talk centered on their dissertation research that is engaging and accessible to a public audience.  We then pair them with interested undergraduate students so that they not only gain experience communicating about science, but are also actively engaged in mentorship.  Graduate-undergraduate teams then go into area high schools to talk about their research and their early science career experiences.  Disserteachin aims to help provide examples for high school students of pathways into STEM careers and to provide a supportive structure for graduate and undergraduate students to develop the skills necessary to engage with the community about their work.  Click here to learn about what educational talks we currently offer.
