Intro to Shark Research Skills Course

Picture

Are you ready for the scientific adventure of a lifetime?

Join us to learn about shark handling and workup procedures, as well as receive training in shark fishing methods including drumlines and longlines.

You’ll learn how to safely collect data from a wide variety of shark species, and discover proven techniques for minimizing the capture stress they experience. Over the course of the week, you’ll see improvements in your new field skills and be awed by the beautiful ocean ecosystems of South Florida.

In addition to field days, this course includes classroom instruction on the fascinating science of shark biology, ecology, and conservation. We also include a workshop on talking to the public about sharks, because science communication skills are vital for those who care about animals that are threatened and dangerously misunderstood.
