Is it your dream to be an advocate for the ocean?

Join Field School and guest instructor Dr. David Shiffman (@whysharksmatter) to learn critical skills for effectively communicating about the most urgent threats facing ocean and coastal environments and the science that's helping protect these magical places!

Over the course of the week, you’ll build basic field skills in a tropical marine environment, and be awed by the beautiful ocean ecosystems of South Florida. Experience up close and first-hand the incredible ocean ecosystems and animals you want to save - from coral reefs to mangrove forests to sharks.

During classroom sessions, you’ll build the skills to use a range of online tools including social media platforms and blogs to create exciting and educational public science engagement campaigns. You'll also learn to construct effective communication strategies and pitch stories and ideas to media outlets. These skills are vital for researchers, staff members of non-profit entities, science communicators, graduate students, or anyone who is interested in being a more effective advocate for our oceans.
